How to report animal mistreatment

Animals chained without water, beaten, sick without care or kept in degrading conditions: how and to whom to report.

What to do, step by step

1. 1Do not confront the owner or enter private property: the report goes to the authorities.
2. 2Gather evidence: photos, videos, dates and times, a description of the animal (thin, wounded, no water or shelter) and the exact address.
3. 3Report to SEPNA/GNR (line 808 200 520) or to the PSP, in person or through the electronic complaint; you may ask for anonymity, but identifying yourself helps the process.
4. 4Also inform the municipal veterinary service, which can inspect the site.
5. 5If the animal is in danger of death, say so clearly: the authorities can act immediately.
6. 6Keep the case number and follow up; local animal welfare associations can help with legal support.
